Broaddus & Associates served as the project manager for the construction of a new facility for The Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg, Texas. Located on a 20-acre site, the new building includes teaching and game rooms, a library, staff offices, a pavilion, and a full gymnasium with two interior basketball courts, showers and storage facilities. The facility helps The Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV ensure 16,000 local children have greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance their lives and shape their futures.
Broaddus & Associates monitored the schedule, tracked the budget, oversaw quality control, and managed inspections to ensure that the facility was built as designed. Broaddus & Associates also provided value engineering services and stringently reviewed all submitted costs. As an example, our firm reduced the original cost of the removal of a decades-old underground drainage line beneath the clubhouse by 40% by modifying the submitted process and schedule for the initiative.
Since the building is also used by a nearby charter school, Broaddus & Associates reviewed the facility-sharing agreements and recommended mutually beneficial modifications. These included an allocation program for maintenance costs and a system for resource scheduling.
For this project Broaddus & Associates facilitated the achievement of a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from U.S. Green Building Council. The building’s design incorporates energy efficiency, with elements such as natural lighting, rooftop rainwater collection for irrigation, and an extensive recycling system.
